MATCH PLAY
Entry Fee: $20.00 per player (Pay through Venmo @Kirk-Hon)
Payout places will be determined based upon the number of participants.
Active GHIN is required and USGA Rules apply.
Match play differs from stroke play in that two opponents play against one another in a hole by hole format. Scoring is hole by hole in that the winner of the hole is awarded 1 point. A tie on the hole results in each player being awarded .5 points. The player with the most points at the end of the round is the winner of the match. At the end of the regulation 18-holes of golf, if the players are tied, they will continue to play holes until one or the other gains the winning point. Players should familiarize themselves with the general USGA Match Play Rules.
This is a single elimination bracket tournament played until all, but one winning player is eliminated. The match bracket and results will appear on the league portal.
Handicap: Players will play based 100 % of the players Playing Handicap. Utilizing their Low HI for all rounds played within the past 12 months. The formula for determining the playing handicap is:
Playing/Course Handicap = Low HI X (Slope Rating/113) + (Course Rating-par)
The Low HI can be found by looking up the player in the GHIN system. The slope and rating are determined depending on the tee box played.
Once each player has determined their playing handicap, the player with the higher handicap receives a stroke for the difference on that number of highest handicap holes.
For example, Player A has a playing handicap of 18 and Player B has a playing handicap of 24. There is a point difference of 6 and thus gets a stroke on the six hardest holes. The lowest handicap player plays to zero (scratch) and the higher handicap wheels off of that.
Matches between players can be played at any time and on any course, however both players must agree to the course and tee boxes to be played. Generally, matches are played from the blue tees but players may agree to play off a different box.
Players are responsible for scheduling the match against you opponent. These ca be played on Sunday morning with the Q’s Pub group; however, you must notify the league manager of the intent to do so for pairing purposes.
Score Cards: Players will keep score on a paper scorecard which contains: The names, date of play, tee box played from and signatures of both players. Player will be responsible for posting to GHIN for any round not played on Sunday morning with the Q’s League.
Conceded holes must be reported to GHIN with the “most likely” score for the hole based on where the ball was at concession:
-
Within 5 feet of the hole 1 stroke
-
Within 5 feet to 20 yards of the hole either 3 or three depending on the distance from the pin
-
More than 20 yards add 4 strokes
If the match is closed out in less than 14 holes, then post the 9-hole score on the first holes.
If the players abandon the round after the match is decided and do not continue on through 18 holes, post the scores to GHIN using a “net par” for the un-played holes.
